Why is it called a trucker hat?

The trucker hat gets its name from the people who popularized it: long-haul truck drivers. In the 1970s, agricultural supply companies realized that caps made great mobile billboards, so they started giving away mesh-back caps with their branding on the front. Among the earliest adopters were truckers, who wore them because the large brim helped keep the sun out of their eyes while driving.
